Active Leak Detection Program

Central Tablelands Water will be working with Central NSW Joint Organisation (CNSWJO) to undertake a specialised leak detection program in Blayney on 11 May, focusing on reticulation pipelines within residential areas.
This program uses highly trained detection dogs capable of identifying underground water leaks by sensing trace elements such as chlorine or fluoride. This allows for the detection of leaks that may not be visible at the surface, improving the efficiency and accuracy of inspections.
The team can survey approximately 10 kilometres of pipeline per day and detect leaks at depths of up to 1.5 metres.
Following the inspection, a detailed report will be provided identifying potential leak locations. Council’s network crews will then carry out any required repair works.
A demonstration session is also planned for community members and local schools, with timing to be confirmed.
This initiative supports improved water conservation, reduced water loss, and enhanced service reliability across the Blayney area.
