Lake Rowlands Full, But Water Wise Habits Still Matter
Following recent rainfall across the region, Lake Rowlands, the primary water supply source for Central Tablelands Water (CTW), has reached 100% capacity.
CTW General Manager, Charlie Harris, welcomed the positive result for local communities. “It is very encouraging to see Lake Rowlands return to full capacity. This is welcome news for our customers and communities, providing confidence in the security and reliability of our water supply following recent rain events,” Mr Harris said.
“The recovery of the storage demonstrates the resilience of the Lake Rowlands catchment and reinforces the importance of continuing plans to augment Lake Rowlands to strengthen long-term water security during future droughts.”
Despite Lake Rowlands being at full capacity, Level 1 Water Restrictions remain in place across the CTW supply network.
CTW Chairman, Cr Andrew Rawson, said current storage levels highlighted the value of the proposed Lake Rowlands augmentation project. “It is fantastic to see Lake Rowlands spilling again. This demonstrates the important role the dam plays in supplying water to our communities and the long-term benefits that raising the dam wall could provide for regional water security,” Cr Rawson said.
“While our storages are in an excellent position, seasonal forecasts indicate there is potential for El Niño conditions to develop, bringing a higher risk of hotter, drier weather and drought. Continued responsible water use will help preserve our water supplies and improve resilience should dry conditions return.”
“If drought conditions intensify in the future, additional water restrictions may be required to protect water security across the region. Using water wisely today helps ensure supplies remain available when they are needed most.”
Level 1 Water Restrictions allow the watering of lawns and gardens daily between 6.00am and 10.00am, and 4.00pm and 10.00pm.
